My code editor of choice is Notepad++ and the browser I use to preview my code is Firefox. To begginers, I really recommend that you keep your website's files on your hard drive, and don't use Neocities' code editor except for maybe minor changes. I also keep a physical notebook where I write down plans/ideas for what features I want on any given page, as well as code snippets so I don't have to memorize everything the first time I learn about them. Also, if you use darkreader, remember to disable it while viewing your work in a browser.
When looking up how to do something, I use MDN Web Docs. I know most people here recommend W3schools, I just prefer this one usually. I also spend time inspecting other people's code on their sites or free to use templates to understand how they did something. Most people here are "amateurs", so keep in mind what you see might not be the most optimized code ever, but it's helpful to learn from your peers.
That being said, please do not just copy paste other people's code. It's disrespectful to nab someone else's work like that without permission. Free to use templates and tutorials exist to help you make your own site. Another thing I don't see in begginer resources is that you should not hotlink images generally. For instance - you shouldn't host an image on neocities, and then embed it on your profile on a different site like Tumblr or Artfight. Any time that image is viewed outside of neocities, it still uses neocities' server resources. So if you want to use an image on your website here, upload the image instead of hotlinking it. If you want to use an image for a profile that doesn't allow you to upload images, find an online image hoster that allows hotlinking, like filegarden.
